The history.
The Sheepherders Open
The Sheepherders Golf Tourney started in the summer of 1991 with seven players; Martin (Tine) Auza was the organizer. The players were all Sheepherders within the state of AZ; the idea was to get industry leaders in this business together for a “fun” round of golf. What started as a small family and friend’s tournament has grown to a full field of 144 plus/minus players. 2023 will be the 31st year of the golf tournament.
In 2015 we decided to give this tournament a more meaningful purpose and that year $1,000 was donated to the Civitan Foundation, a local Williams and Phoenix foundation that focuses on enriching the lives of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
In 2018, the golf tournament added the Addison Auza Scholarship Fund (AASF) as a beneficiary, as well as the Civitan Foundation. In the past several years, the tournaments’ donations have grown substantially to the benefit of both Civitan and the AASF.
Much more than just a day on the course.

A Raffle
The tournament has introduced a raffle; tickets will be available to buy online. The winning ticket will be drawn at the awards BBQ after the round.
